Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review. I’m putting this one out a day early since I’m heading out to Star Wars Celebration. Enjoy!
Bombad Radio: Episode 193 features Jeremiah and guests Jesse and Amanda as they discuss Neil Blomkamp and his Aliens sequel. They also talk about District 9, Prometheus, Alien 3, Alien vs. Predator and Alien vs. Predator: Requiem. They had a good topic for the episode, sadly it didn’t turn out the best. The audio is very weird (which Jeremiah apologizes for) which makes it kind of hard to listen to and enjoy. While I didn’t really agree a whole lot with their thoughts on the movies, I did appreciate their discussions of the comics as I haven’t checked those out.
Coffee With Kenobi: Episode #34 starts with some Rogue One discussion, a dose from the Bearded Trio, and then segues into their main topic with is a very fun conversation with the hosts of Skywalking Through Neverland. Sarah and Richard talk about how they met, how they got started in podcasting, and the extents of their Star Wars fandom. The episode wraps up with some listener feedback, and puts a bow on another great episode.
Fangirls Going Rogue: Episode #18 covers Rogue One, their Celebration shirts, shoutouts, and what panels and events they have going on at Celebration. Then they talk with Ashley Eckstein about Ahsoka, Her Universe and Celebration. Amy Ratcliffe comes on to talk a little about Celebration, and they finish things off with a character discussion on bounty hunters and Cad Bane. Another awesome episode with great guests and great discussion.
ForceCast: Special with Chris Trevas and Lin Zy features two interviews with Celebration artists conducted by Spencer Brinkerhoff. Spencer, as always, brings his ‘A’ game and asks some good questions. He talks with Chris about his early artwork, how he got started doing technical line drawings for air conditioners, his non-Star Wars work, his West End Games work, Star Wars Kids magazine, his styles, and his piece for Celebration. Chris breaks down all the logistics and thought that went into the print which is a very awesome insight into the picture. Then Spencer talks with Lin Zy about Jedi Con, martial arts, her Celebration piece and Sabine. Definitely a good episode to check out.
Full of Sith: Episode CVIII includes a great interview with Star Wars Rebels Season One executive producer Greg Weisman. They talk about the show, his contributions, and the phenomenal work that Dave Filoni puts into the show. They also talk about the comic he’s writing, Kanan: The Last Padawan, and his original work. Afterwards, Mike and Bryan talk some more about the Topps Star Wars card trading app.
Jedi Journals: April 2015 show covers their usual topics of recent acquisitions, variant covers, and a rundown on the Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the books coming out this Fall. They also talk with Shane Turgeon the author of The Force In The Flesh I and The Force In The Flesh II who shares how he got started in documenting Star Wars tattoos.
Radio 1138: Episode 26 has a lot of coverage of the 15th Anniversary part for the UK Garrison with interviews and sound bytes with the members. There’s some good stuff there, including some touching stories about why they do what they do. There’s some music clips, and they head out with a chat with Star Wars artist Randy Martinez. Good show!
RebelForce Radio: Episode 4.10.2015 is their Celebration pre-game show as they talk about Star Wars Celebration with David Collins and James Arnold Taylor. They all share the various panels they’ll be doing, the guests, and just have a lot of fun. For that alone, it’s worth putting on your playlist. Toward the end of the show, they talk with Shane Turgeon about his The Force In The Flesh books and Star Wars tattoos.
Star Wars Action News: Episode 445 starts out with some news, and update on their kickstarter, and then a report from Indiana Comic Con and a bunch of tips for Star Wars Celebration (comfy shoes, foot care kit, don’t wear brand new shoes, a good bag, be considerate of your backpack, bring some warm clothes, poster tube, hardback folder for 8×10’s and cards, batteries, camera, sharpies, medicine like tums, aspirin or tylenol cold, breath mints, hand gel, cash, and even ideas for snacks. Lots of good tips and useful for any convention trip.
Star Wars Influences: Episode #11 zeroes in on Buck Rogers and its influence on Star Wars. However, Jimmy Mac and Paul dive into the world of Marvel Star Wars comics first as they discuss their thoughts on the latest issues. They also share their opinions on the literature being canon now. Afterwards, they get into their main discussion covering how Buck Rogers itself was inspired by John Carter. They talk about the inspiration for bacta, the use of an evil viceroy with a mechanical army controlled by a spaceship, walking war machines, wedge ships, imperial cruisers, planet hopping, speeder bikes and the use of merchandizing. Pretty cool episode. I’m not real familiar with Buck Rogers so it’s neat to hear all the similarities and direct inspirations.
Star Wars Report: Episode #160 features Riley, Mark and guest Mike Pilot (Full of Sith) as they talk about Star Wars Celebration, Star Wars news and fandom. Great conversation and worth a listen.
Episode #159 features Riley, Mark and guest Aaron Goins as they talk about Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens books and comics. Later, Mark and Riley get into a Rogue One discussion. Good show.
